Fueling A Sustainable Future

We believe that creating a better world for generations to come starts today.

Our Collective Responsibility

At Wheaton College Dining Services, we’re committed to making a positive impact on campus and the community by focusing on responsible sourcing, reducing food waste, and offering nutritious meals made with responsible practices. From supporting local partners to making thoughtful choices in our dining operations, we’re working every day to build a more sustainable future. And you can be a part of the effort, too!

Working Toward Zero Waste

We proudly support the sustainability goals of Wheaton College. Here are a few active initiatives.

  • Collaborative Composting

We partner with The Plante Brothers Farming šŸ“112 Oak Street, Norton, MA to collect clean food scraps—like fruits, veggies, bread, grains, dairy, eggs, and vegetable oils—to help feed their pigs.

  • Robust Recycling

To support sustainability, Chase Commons offers green reusable to-go containers. We also follow Wheaton College’s recycling rules by properly sorting cardboard, metal, paper, glass, approved plastics.

  • Proactive Prevention

We use tracking and forecasting tools to proactively identify food waste trends in order to alter our preparation accordingly.

Showcasing Our Local Partnerships & Sustainability Efforts

Wheaton Dining sources food from a variety of local farmers, growers, and distributors. Our partners may change throughout the year based on seasonality and availability, ensuring the freshest ingredients for our campus community. We are committed to sustainability, offering responsibly sourced tuna, cage-free eggs, and other ethically produced foods that support animal welfare and environmentally responsible practices.

  • Local Farms

We’re proud to source from 14 local Massachusetts farms, providing fresh seasonal produce, meats, bakery items, and dairy while uplifting local growers and businesses.

  • Cage-Free Eggs

Every egg we offer on campus comes from cage-free farms. This choice benefits both animal welfare and sustainability, promoting environmentally responsible farming while ensuring students enjoy wholesome, high-quality ingredients.

  • Animal Welfare

we prioritize animal welfare by sourcing ingredients, like cage-free eggs and responsibly raised meats, from farms that provide humane living conditions. This approach ensures that the food we serve not only tastes great but is produced in a way that respects animals and supports ethical farming practices.

  • Sustainable Source

All canned tuna served on campus is sustainably sourced, meaning it comes from fisheries that follow responsible practices to protect ocean ecosystems and prevent overfishing. By choosing sustainably caught tuna, we help support healthy marine populations, reduce environmental impact, and provide students with seafood that is both nutritious and environmentally responsible.
